Results of the 2012 MDR Halibut Derby
The fishing conditions were very good. The anglers came
to the docks with 58 fish to be weighed in. Four of them were beautiful White Seabass. In the end it was the live fish bonus that mattered the most. The
first place fish was kept alive! She was lovingly cared for and moved into
the waiting holding take so fast we have no photos of her. The leader board was loaded with big fish both days. Well done to all
anglers.
The financial support from the fishing and business
communities was handsome. The giving by the Anglers who came out was strong.
Many enjoyed that the Derby entry fee included the shirt and the dinner in
the park on Sunday. While waiting for the announcements Joshua Gerson
(Halibut Derby Chairman) arranged for live music to entertain the crowd. As
the Raffle tickets were selling fast and the meals were being enjoyed leisurely.
The mood was festive.

Our Halibut Seminar:
Each Year the MDRA fishing club hosts a special fishing seminar
at the club meeting just before the Derby. Many anglers attend hoping to increase their chances of hooking and landing the
big one during the Derby.

Seminar on May 10th 2012

The Marina Del
Rey Halibut Derby is only possible because people give. Some giving is
the time and effort expended by the MDRA members and volunteers. Some is
the local business and fishing or boating related sponsors supplying us with
valuable gifts and prizes. And of course it includes the many fishermen and
fisherwomen who show up to fish in the derby. Thank you to you all.

Joshua
Gerson - 2012 HD Chairman and President of MDRA
Joshua was clear
on his biggest goal of the derby. A fun fishing event. Many groups
got together and went fishing. Lots of anglers had the good luck to find a
good quality fish. His leadership and support cast of Halibut Derby
Committee members got the job done.
Volunteering is how this works. See
the Volunteers page.

Thank you also to our many Sponsors
